The Ice Cream Dream_ Billy Goat Ice Cream.

November 3, 2014 , , , , , , , , ,

1. What inspired your Ice Cream company?

Answer: The inspiration of the ice cream company came out of a charge from the SBA in what kind of business would be successful in your rural area. My undergrad had a goat research institute attached to it and I did research there to discover the health benefits of goats milk. After submitting the plan it placed first. It wasn’t until I entered graduate school where I met by business partner Caleb Neil that we developed a whole new concept based off of my original idea and we have Billy Goat Ice Cream Co. as it’s known today.

2. How did you launch it?

Answer: We are in the process of launching now and we are about 3 weeks away from that official date.

3. What’s the name of your business?

Answer: Billy Goat Ice Cream Co.

4. Do you have a physical location? How is your product sold?

Answer: Yes, Our manufacturing facilities are located in Stillwater, OK. (1414 S. Sangre Road, Stillwater, OK)

5. Do you have any recent expansions or ventures? News?

Our product will be sold in grocery stores, farmers markets, and restaurants. We have recently finished a kickstarter campaign video that will be going live on October 20, 2014!

6. What flavor(s) are you known for?
Answer: My go to flavor would have to be our Bourbon Vanilla Ripple and Mint Chocolate Chip.

7. Any business/entrepreneur advice for readers?

Answer: My advice would be to do something that you are truly passionate about because it is passion that’s going to be a driving force of venture creation and what’s going to keep you motivated to put in those long hours and always continue to perfect your craft.

8. Any company background, target market, goals or additional information.

Check us out at, we will be doing a number of things coming up this year as we prepare for launch!

More about Billy Goat Ice Cream Co:

Billy Goat Ice Cream Co., which makes ice cream from goat’s milk rather than cow’s milk, launched a Kick Starter fundraising campaign earlier this month.

The advantage of using goat’s milk is the ice cream can be consumed by people who are lactose intolerant. It is estimated that one-third of all Americans have some degree of lactose intolerance.

Billy Goat Ice Cream is the creation of RaShaun Robinson and Caleb Neil, Master’s in Entrepreneurship students at Oklahoma State University.

“Caleb and I decided to pursue Billy Goat Ice Cream as a result of winning the Riata Center’s Big Idea Pitch and Poster competition last year,” said Robinson. “Caleb and I both met in the MSE program and dissected the idea I developed as an undergrad into what we have today. Since then we have been working toward getting into production to service many different grocery store outlets around the state.”

Billy Goat Ice Cream is currently producing ice cream in small batches. The purpose of the $20,000 Kickstarter campaign is to raise money to ramp up production. The company has secured shelf space in a handful of grocery stores in Stillwater and the Dallas area and is looking to expand.

The early success of Billy Goat Ice Cream is a testament to the strength of the OSU ecosystem for student startups. Robinson came up with the idea while an undergraduate student at Langston University, and came to OSU because of the School of Entrepreneurship and its Master’s of Entrepreneurship program.

The business was launched in Student Startup Central, the program’s student accelerator, after placing first in the Riata Center’s Big Idea Pitch and Poster Competition. Assistance was provided along the way by the Spears School of Business’s marketing department, which provided student interns, and by Jordan Advertising in Oklahoma City, which provided mentoring and support.

The business has now transitioned to Meridian Technology Center, west of Stillwater, which has an FDA-approved kitchen. Along the way, the business raised $95,000 for equipment via a USDA grant.

“We are doing Kick Starter in order to raise more money for facilities, packaging, distribution, and our first production run in operations,” Rashaun said. “So any support we can get in this early concept stage would mean getting a chance to make Billy Goat so much bigger than it is now and make our dreams as business owners come true.
